99 George Street has been in continuous European usage since c. 1788.

It was part of the first hospital grounds, standing just south to the site, with the Assistant Surgeon’s residence occupied by Francis Greenway, the convict architect who had been transported for forging a building contract in 1814.

In 1861, for an unknown reason, the buildings at 95-99 George Street were vacated and the buildings demolished. The land remained vacant until c. 1867 when the present building was constructed.

They were occupied by 1868, with a butcher in No. 95 and a grocer in No. 99, and these buildings continued to be used for those businesses for the next 20 years. 99 George Street was continually used as a grocers and run by a number of tenants until the 1970s. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority undertook restoration and reconstruction works on the terrace of shops.

Since the late 1980’s, 99 George Street has been occupied by The Rocks Café, where it continues to thrive.

The Rocks Café is an ideal location to have an intimate dinner, enjoy a celebration or host a business event.
Conveniently located just a short walk from Circular Quay, our second level dining area offers genuine warmth that will enhance the experience of your next event.

Nice cafe, always busy and good service. I had the chicken schnitzel and it was crispy and tasty. Chips too. Salad nice and well dressed. The only... reason i didnt give it 5 stars was the mushroom was runny and tasteless. Not bad tasting, just no mushroom flavour at all. Otherwise a nice spot to dine more

Cosy little cafe with really good coffee. We had Eggs Benedict, one ham and one salmon, and though they looked smallish they were very filling and... the sauce was in the top 3 of hollandaise I've had. Delicious and reasonably more

I walked past here and then stopped with family just to get a drink, but I absolutely couldn't stop myself from ordering the huge lemon meringue pie!... I would go there again just for some more of that, the meringue was so TALL! Everything about this place was lovely and they were very accommodating too!read more

Went to this restaurant about 8 months ago. It’s a decent enough restaurant but they got a few of my orders wrong. The nacho’s I had some capsicum... sort of sauce in it and it didn’t taste like nachos anymore. Can be busy sometimes especially on the weekend and if you’re on the top floor you’ll often here trains rumbling over the roof quite frequently which can be more
